Christoph Willibald Gluck
In French with German surtitles
The Greek and Roman mythology tells the story of Orpheus who, inconsolable over the death of his young wife Eurydice, follows her to the Underworld and with his singing wins her back from the Dead. But as he breaks the commandment not to look upon her until their return to Earth, he loses her again. In Gluck’s opera, however, Amor takes pity on Orpheus and allows the lovers to reunite.
Orphée et Eurydice by director and choreographer Christian Spuck premiered in 2009 as the first co-production of Stuttgart Opera and Stuttgart Ballet.
